Being Grateful

"Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again."

Henri Cartier Bresson

This morning I read an article in this months' Canadian Living magazine about finding one's gratitude.   according to the article grateful people tend to live happier, more optimistic lives and are buffered when stressful events occur.  Apparently if you have an Iphone you can even get a gratitude app to help you keep track and "count your blessings".

So naturally, as I prepared to take our puppy out for her morning walk, with camera in hand I was thinking of all the reasons I have to be grateful:

1st of all it was a beautiful morning, slightly overcast with no threat of rain;

It wasn't too cold;

I am able to go out for over an hour each morning to walk Saydee in my favourite park;

I am healthy and well as is everyone who is dear to me;

I have a wonderful man in my life, a beautiful home, loving family and great friends;

and I get to work at what I love to do and where I want to be.

It wasn't always like this but I'm grateful even for when times were less than glorious because it has made me stop and appreciate all that is around me at the moment for nothing is permanent and it would be a shame to not have appreciated when you could have.

Photography for me is a way for me to pay attention, appreciate and create lasting memories for myself and others.
