Each day we spend here I understand more and more why the famous impressionist painters all either came from here or painted this place. Yesterday, we drove up approximately a mountainside road called Les Cretes. The view from the top (420 metres /1300 feet) was stunning. We could see the port of Cassis as well as the various Calanques carved into the landscape. After that drive we visited the town of Cassis and found ourselves a lovely little restaurant called Romano's with impeccable food and service. It was not cheap though. After, we went on a boat tour of the Calanques. Simply beautiful and lovely for hikers and swimmers. Apparently one has to hike for about 45 minutes from town to find this out of the way swimming resort.
