Ice Storm 2023

The climate-time-bomb is ticking.
— UN Secretary General

A few scenes from Cantley, Quebec during this week’s ice storm. Even though it was much shorter in duration than the 1998 ice storm, it sure packed a punch: lightning, thunder, freezing rain. The storm lasted just one day resulting in downed trees and power outages. Over 1.2 million people across Ontario and Quebec were without power, and many still are after two days. A couple of friends have remarked how they thought the weather of late seemed to be rather unstable in the East. Given the UN’s recent Synthesis Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the UN Secretary General’s remarks I’m thinking there will be more of these extreme weather events.
