Travelling to Jasper

Travelling to Jasper

Most recently we have returned from a week long trek to Edmonton and Jasper.  The purpose of our trip to Edmonton was to have some car maintenance done which can't be done where we live in Yellowknife.  Also my Epson 3800 printer needed some repair.  It is a two day drive to Edmonton, which is the nearest major city where these kinds of services can be had.  Since it is hardly worth driving two days just to get car and printer repairs done, and we had a bit of time before Eddie had to get back to work, and with Jasper being just another four hours drive away, we decided to go to Jasper for a mini three day holiday.

The Tree Farm

Yesterday with somewhat mild temperatures we ventured out to the Fallowfield Tree farm to get out Christmas tree.  Since it was Saydee's birthday we wanted to bring her along as well.  I think getting the Tree and then decorating it is my absolute favourite Christmas Tradition.  Saydee wasn't too sure about it, but I loved the Clydesdale horses that pulled the wagon out to farm area.  It just all seemed so Canadian:  hot chocolate by the fire pit, horse drawn sleigh rides, and lumberjack looking guys :)

A Pet's Ten Commandments....

I received this in my email today... I don't know who wrote it, but it is a good reminder of how we should treat our pets and dare I say (with a little tweaking) our loved ones...

A PET'S TEN

COMMANDMENTS.........

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years.

Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment.

You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.  Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10.  On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please.  Never say you can't bear to watch.Don't make me face this alone.  Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

First Frost

Yesterday morning there was slight layer of frost on the ground.   These were taken with my 105 2.8 macro lens.

We do pass a graveyard every day.  A good reminder that we are not here forever.

Walk in the Woods with a Lensbaby

As I was saying yesterday, every morning I go for a walk in the woods near here with our dog Saydee.  This morning after viewing some gorgeous black and white photos on facebook of the Loire Valley in France by

Bruno Mercier

that were taken with the Lensbaby Composer Double Glass optic,  I was inspired to bring my camera and lensbaby lens.

I also developed a renewed interest in Black and white :)

Saydee gets a haircut

One of the benefits of working freelance from home is that every morning Saydee and I get to go out for a long walk in the forest trail close to home.   Saydee takes on the character of a hunter and goes after anything moving.  She loves to bound through the forest to chase rabbits and squirrels.  She never gets anything but the burrs which cling to her coat.  She usually comes back looking like a commando dog, but today she  had an appointment at the groomers.  Here are some before and after pictures.
