Life in the Knife

Project Statement
When my husband accepted a position with the Territorial Government, I was fortunate to return to Northern Canada where I spent much of my childhood. For two years, I was able to document the landscapes, people and culture of Yellowknife. Memories of the northern lights, piercing cold weather and the crisp sound my mukluks made while walking through the snow would resurface and inform my vision. While the community of Yellowknife is considered sub arctic, temperatures of -36C in late November are not unusual. With the recent passing of my father, my trek north was in a sense a means of retracing our steps and keeping alive the memories of my parents and childhood through the familiar northern landscape.
